Directions to Practice Locations

Junior choristers rehearse Tuesdays and Thursdays in the choir room of Highland Park Baptist Church, 5206 Balcones Drive. (Duals also rehearse here on Thursdays.) From MOPAC, go west on 2222 and take the first left, onto Balcones. You will pass Chez Zee on your right and Randall's on your left. At the T (note the stop sign), turn left and then almost immediately right into the church's parking lot. Turn left in front of the building, and use the left entrance. Please do not call the church office with any messages relating to AGC. Parents are permitted to wait in the game room, but the church has asked us not to use other rooms without permission through the director, as several other groups also make use of the facility. Many parents find the rehearsal period a convenient time for errands and nearby grocery shopping!

Senior and Dual choristers rehearse Sunday afternoons from 2-3:30 at the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary Chapel, 100 E. 27th Street. Occasionally Juniors meet here for warm-up for a downtown concert. From IH-35, take the (lower deck) 26th Street exit and head west toward town. You will cross Medical Arts and San Jacinto, go under the walkway between the UT engineering buildings, and turn right at the next light, which is Speedway. Go one block on Speedway to the 3-way stop, then left on 27th Street. Go up the hill and turn right into the first parking lot. The Chapel is the little church just beyond the parking lot; use the street entrance. For those coming from the west side, it is most convenient to exit MOPAC on Westover or 35th Street. Make your way north or south on Guadalupe to 27th Street, and turn east; you'll pass All Saints' Episcopal Church, the Scottish Rite Dorm and the APTS library before coming to the Chapel on your left. Parents are welcome to sit in the back of the Chapel during practice (if it does not cause their daughters terminal embarrassment!) or on the seminary grounds in nice weather.

Both the church and the seminary permit Austin Girls' Choir free use of their facilities based on personal relationships with the director and her husband. Were we to rent practice facilities at other institutions, the expense would necessitate a dramatic increase in tuition. It is in the best interest of all to behave with care and consideration in both these locations, clean up any messes we might make, treat all individuals we encounter with respect and courtesy, refrain from bringing in food and drink (except when permission has been granted), and use only those facilities and rooms arranged for by the director.
