Junior Choristers' Guidelines
In Performance
- Arrive on time for warm-up, and come in quietly.
- Be dressed in your complete uniform when you arrive.
- Do not bring snacks or drinks with you.
- Listen carefully to instructions, and be sure you know where
you're supposed to stand.
- Be on your best behavior before, during and after the performance.
Remember, you represent Austin Girls' Choir, and people will be
watching you.
- Stand quietly in good performance posture with a pleasant expression
on your face. Be careful not to lock your knees or to rock back
and forth. Smile a lot! When you are singing, smile with your
eyes.
- Your book goes in your right hand, fat side down, when it is
not in use.
- Your free hand hangs loosely by your side, stays out of your
pocket, and doesn't pull at your clothes or play with your hair.
- Do not talk to your neighbor, poke her or make faces at her
during or between songs.
- If you have to sneeze, cough or yawn, cover your mouth. If you
can't stop coughing, walk to the side of the stage so an adult
can help you.
- If you feel faint or sick, walk to the side of the stage and
sit down.
- If you need to wipe your nose, use a tissue from your pocket
(not your sleeve!) quickly and quietly. Then put the tissue back
in your pocket or hide it in your hand.
- Keep your eyes on the director! If there is a loud noise, don't
look to see what made it. Also, don't look around the audience
for your parents or friends. If it's important to you to know
where they are, agree that they'll sit in a special place beforehand.
Roving eyes look unprofessional.
- Don't play with your hair you can avoid this by tying it
back. Also, don't scratch, hike up your hose or take off your
shoes!
- If your sash or bow falls off or you drop your music during
a song, wait till the song is over to pick it up. Don't try to
put things back on or rearrange music just keep going like
nothing happened.
- If you make a mistake, don't make a face, but instead look like
you did it on purpose.
- Makeup to cover blemishes is OK, but avoid other makeup. No
perfume.
- Bow when the director tells you to and watch! Rise gracefully,
without flipping your hair.
- Pay attention when we walk out, so there are no big holes in
the line.
- Say "thank you" if people compliment your performance after
the concert.
- When your parent or driver is ready to take you home, you must
first sign out with the designated adult. You don't want people
to be worrying about you or looking for you after you've gone.
