Junior Choristers' Guidelines
In Rehearsal
- Be in the rehearsal room, in your place and ready to start at the scheduled time. Go to the bathroom and get a drink of water before rehearsal starts.
- No chewing gum, drinks or snacks in rehearsal.
- Leave toys, purses, books and coats on chairs beyond reach.
- If you have a question, stay in your place, raise your hand and wait to be called on.
- Talking during rehearsal is not acceptable unless it has to do with the music we're working on and is very quiet. Do not talk while Ms. Sara is talking.
- If you absolutely need to use the bathroom or get a drink of water, ask the proctor for permission. Wait till your section is not working on music, so that you don't miss anything.
- Do not ask what time it is, or how much time is left in rehearsal. Our practice ends at 8:15, and such questions are both impolite and wasteful of rehearsal time.
- Always use your music unless you are told otherwise.
- Always bring a pencil to rehearsal, and use it to mark changes in your music. No pens. It is your responsibility to bring your sign-out folder to rehearsal when it is due.
- It is your responsibility to take care of your music, and to replace lost music. If you lose a printed score, tell the music librarian so that more can be ordered. Do not borrow music from others' folders without asking; return borrowed music before going home. Know your folder number.
- Remember to use good performance posture at all times. Do not lean on the railings, walls, or furniture. Hold your music, don't rest it on furniture.
- Stand unless you are told you may be seated. When your section is called upon and you have been sitting, stand up right away.
- Treat all choir members with respect. Pushing, shoving, kicking or hitting are unacceptable. Do not laugh at others' mistakes, or say hurtful things to or about other singers. We are a team, and teammates help and encourage each other.
- Disruptive and/or overly silly behavior is not acceptable. Don't play with others' hair.
- If you don't like the music we are working on, don't complain about it. Instead, try to do a good job and help others learn the song, and we can move on to another song much more quickly.
- The Head Girl and Proctors are to be treated with the same respect you show the Director. Behave with respect and courtesy toward all adults.
- Wait in the rehearsal room for your parent or caretaker to meet you after rehearsals.
